Chef and owner Mimi Maumus has grown quite the reputation in Athens. Her early years as a chef were spent working as Catering Director and Executive Sous Chef under local chef celebrity Hugh Acheson at 5 & 10. Maumus says the new menu will consist of seasonal southern food with a nod towards her Louisiana roots.
Monthly supper club fans should be excited because Mimi and sous chef, Zack Burdette, are looking forward to offering a new spin on the supper club experience. “We are shifting towards a tasting menu to give supper club fans the multi-coursed experience that they have enjoyed for several years but without a restriction for date and time,” Maumus explained. The tasting menu will be perfect for a fun night out with friends.
The food will satisfy your soul and the creative presentation will be a feast for your eyes. While you’re there, try snacks like the sweet and savory stuffed medjool date (which will melt in your mouth) or the nutty and fluffy swanee bites-cheese straws sandwiched with pimento cheese & rolled in Georgia pecans. Recently featured in Garden & Gun, the signature pepper jelly candied pecans are the most famous snack—these sticky goodies make a great gift and come in a trendy brown box available for purchase.
For lunch try the wildly popular Mayberry, a sandwich sized buttermilk biscuit with pimento cheese, fried chicken, spicy pepper jelly and bacon. Another staple is a fancy twist on a BLT consisting of pepper jelly lacquered pork belly, fried green tomatoes and remoulade. Some meals are even served with an adorable personal skillet cornbread brushed with pepper jelly glaze.
Dessert options include chompers (lightly salted chocolate chip cookies sandwiched with chocolate chip cookie dough) and Mississippi Mud brownies drizzled with chocolate ganache. For something unique, try the salted caramel crispies (made with sweet tea brine)—it doesn’t get more southern than that. Oh, and don’t forget to sip on a cup of 1,000 faces coffee while savoring these sweet treats. home.made’s motto, “a modern approach to classic southern foods” is going to be taken to a new level. Stay tuned for updates on their Instagram and rest assured—the best is yet to come.
